About Course
“Managing the Set” with Emmy-Nominated Cinematographer and Director Patrick Cady, ASC is an in-depth look at the human, emotional, and technical skills required to successfully lead a film or TV set.
Drawing from his work on series such as Bosch, Bosch: Legacy, NCIS: Origins, and more, Patrick shares practical strategies for leadership, collaboration, and creative decision-making. From understanding emotional beats in the script to shaping blocking with actors, communicating with crew, navigating time pressure, and maintaining calm when things go wrong, Patrick demonstrates how preparation, empathy, and clarity create an efficient and creative working environment.
The webinar also explores real-life examples of staging, adjusting performances, solving story problems, and maintaining emotional continuity while shooting out of order. Students will gain insight into the director–cinematographer relationship, the importance of prep, and how to build trust with actors and crew.
This course is ideal for filmmakers who want to elevate not only their technical understanding but their leadership, communication, and storytelling instincts.
