Community Spotlight with Francesca DiGiovanna

Composer, New York, United States.

#FlashbackFriday #FBF  Do you remember our Community Spotlight with Francesca DiGiovanna?

Francesca is a singer-songwriter, composer, and pianist. Although she has a beautiful voice, her main instrument is piano, and most of her work is instrumental. She does all of her arrangements (strings, percussion). Francesca first began working with indie directors while in school. “I first started collabs with friends from the film department during my college years, circa ‘98.” Her goal is to eventually make movie scores professionally.

Style:
“Ambient, Classical.”

Inspiration:
“The sky, the ocean, silence.”

On Composing:
“Music is the language of the universe.”

Biggest Challenge:
“The only real challenge for me is finding more time to be creative. I work as a music teacher for the public schools in NY and have over 350 students a week, so I wish I could spend more time on my music as I do at my job!”

Solution:
“I wait for extended weekends,… and vacations.”

Favorite Tool:
“The piano.”

Favorite Technique:
“Imagination.”

Advice for Novice Composers:
“Use your ears to guide your heart. Use your heart to guide your life. Always share your good soul, for goodness sake!”
